Strategic Collaboration Aligns with Rotary’s “Supporting the Environment” Area of Focus

Official Announcement: Rotary Club of River Ayeyarwady Partners with MESDI for Environmental Conservation

YANGON, May 28, 2026 – The Rotary Club of River Ayeyarwady (RCRA) has officially entered a one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Myanmar Environmental and Sustainable Development Initiative (MESDI). This strategic partnership unites RCRA’s robust civic network with MESDI’s specialized expertise to drive impactful environmental protection and sustainable development initiatives across Myanmar.

This collaborative framework is established to directly advance “Supporting the Environment,” one of Rotary International’s seven official Areas of Focus, contributing tangible solutions toward a greener and more resilient planet.

Three Key Pillars of Collaboration

The partnership focuses on three primary strategic tracks to address pressing ecological challenges:

1. Reforestation and Biodiversity Conservation: Executing targeted tree-planting campaigns and working toward the long-term restoration of critical local ecosystems.

2. Systematic Waste Management Education: Launching community and school-level training programs focused on plastic reduction, recycling, and sustainable consumption patterns.

3. Climate Change Resilience: Hosting capacity-building workshops to equip vulnerable communities with tools and knowledge to adapt and respond effectively to environmental changes.

Shared Strengths and Implementation

In alignment with Rotary’s foundational value of “Service Above Self,” the two organizations will leverage their complementary organizational strengths:

  • RCRA will spearhead community mobilization, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising initiatives.
  • MESDI will direct project execution, providing technical expertise and comprehensive environmental assessments.

Statement from Mr. Aung Ko Win, Charter President of RCRA

Environmental conservation plays a vital role within Rotary’s 7 global Areas of Focus.
